This building was constructed in 1869 by John Smith. It was the new home of the Elora Observer, a paper started 10 years earlier by Charles Clarke and J.M. Shaw as a solid reform paper. At it's peak the Observer had a circulation of 1200. The building burnt down in the 1890's and was rebuilt using portions of the original stone walls. On March 14, 1917 Harry Webster opened a tin smith shop here. "Tinny" Weber ran the shop until the 1970's.
